Page 2 of 3 Planning for the Weather “…there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing…” “…the only thing you can predict about the weather is its unpredictability…” “…you can’t control the weather, so either celebrate it or be quiet about it….” The midsummer weather in western Norway can be gorgeous and sunny or chilly and rainy, you never can tell until it is on top of you. Because of this we try to plan for all possibilities. This list should help you out. Clothing: For overnight trips, our guides suggest packing a “wet set” (clothing that you will wear when paddling) and a “dry set” (comfortable clothing that you will wear in camp. Here are some suggestions that should be part of your attire for your trip: | • | Bathing Suit | • | T-shirt | • | Wool Sweater or Fleece Jacket | • | Warm Hat | • | Wool mittens | • | Long Pants (lightweight synthetic is ideal) | • | Rain Coat (can double as paddling jacket) and Pants | • | One or two Sets of long underwear | • | Sleep clothing | Footwear: | • | One pair of wet shoes such as sandals or neoprene booties | • | One pair of dry shoes such as light sneakers or sandals | • | Two or three pairs of wool socks | | Personal Gear: | • | Sun Hat and Sunglasses | • | Sunscreen and Lip Balm | • | Headlamp | • | Two, one liter water bottles | • | Compressible Sleeping Bag | • | Sleeping Pad | • | Toiletries and any personal medications | • | Waterproof Camera and Binoculars (are nice for far off views and memories) | | If your trip involves a backpacking element, add these items to your list: | • | Heavy Duty Hiking Boots with good ankle support | • | Two pair thin liner socks | • | A large frame (internal frame is preferable) back pack that you can fit all your gear in to | • | Hiking shorts | |
