"magic"

phosphorescence of the sea - luminescence
glistening light stirred by the mermaid's tail - agitated algae
- dynoflaggelates reacting to increased oxygen levels -
the salt water's northern lights.

When darkness returns to the fjords and the waters are calm we see it often.
Like small fireflies lit up in the water
- a 'V' of sparks forms off the bow of your kayak.
Each paddle stroke churns up a ball of rolling glowing stars.
To paddle with moreld is magic!

It is in reference to the phenomenon of bioluminesence produced by dynoflagellates, “tiny single celled organisms [that] light up like stars as a defense mechanism to warn away predators. The result is that when anything moves the water (human being, kayak paddle, boat) reaction with oxygen makes it glow. No special effects no funky nuclear pollution. This all natural light show occurs in about seven places in the world.” Norway’s fjords are one of them.
