Basic Safety Course

Spend a few hours with one of our professional instructors and learn the basic, essential skills for handling a sea kayak on your own.Your instructor will teach you the fundamentals of efficient paddle strokes, "wet-exits," deep water recovery and rescue procedures, navigation, and how to evaluate the fjord and its weather conditions for safe paddling. This is a priceless course for you if you have never paddled before, or if you are a beginner. For the experienced paddler, it may be just what you need to refresh your skills. Prepare to get wet, but don’t worry wetsuits will be provided. This course is a requirement for private rental of kayaks .

 For those paddlers out there interested in fine tuning their skills or going beyond the Basic Safety Course we offer custom instruction. Learn how to properly brace yourself to prevent a capsize or right yourself  in the event of a capsize, or perfect your paddle strokes for maximum efficiency. All of our instructors are British Canoe Union and/or American Canoe Association certified and have years of teaching under their belts.
